Frequently asked questions

Clear answers before you commit.

Start with the questions homeowners most often ask about system size, batteries, backup, installation, warranties and ongoing support.

Solar systems

Choosing the right solar setup

How do I know what size solar system I need?

Start with your annual and daily electricity use, when that energy is consumed, the available roof area, shading, network limits and future plans such as a battery, EV or electric hot-water system.

Does the biggest system always produce the best result?

No. A useful design balances roof space, inverter capacity, household loads, export limits and budget. More panels can be valuable, but only when the rest of the design can use or manage the energy.

Why is roof orientation and shading important?

Orientation changes when panels generate, while nearby trees, buildings and roof obstructions can reduce output. Proper roof review and shading information support a more realistic proposal.

Can I add more panels later?

Sometimes. Expansion depends on roof space, inverter capacity, string design, current equipment rules and network approval. Future expansion should be discussed at the initial design stage.

Battery storage and backup

Capacity is only part of the story

How is battery capacity different from inverter output?

Battery capacity is the amount of stored energy, usually measured in kilowatt-hours. Inverter output is how quickly power can be delivered, measured in kilowatts. Both must suit the intended loads.

Will a battery power my entire home during a blackout?

Not necessarily. The answer depends on the product, output rating, phase arrangement, switchboard design and which circuits are connected to backup. Your proposal should state the backup scope clearly.

Can a battery be added to my existing solar?

Often, but the existing inverter, switchboard, metering, available space and required operating mode must be reviewed first.

Is three-phase battery backup better?

It can be better for a three-phase home, particularly where the system can support unbalanced loads. The right choice depends on which loads need backup and how they are distributed across phases.

Installation and support

What to expect from Bluesky

Who is responsible for my installation?

Bluesky remains responsible for the customer journey and project outcome. Qualified and licensed installation resources may include contracting teams, with scope, quality and handover requirements controlled through the project.

Does every job receive a 100-point audit?

Yes. Every job receives a 100-point audit, and your record is available in Solar Live alongside commissioning information and handover documents. Explore the audit record.

What does adherence to NETCC mean for me?

We adhere to the New Energy Tech Consumer Code, which guides clear proposals and contracts, installation information, warranties, support and complaint handling. Read about NETCC.

What is your Integrated Management System?

Our IMS brings together quality, environment and workplace health and safety processes. It guides work methods, project records, checks and follow-up, including the 100-point audit. Learn about our IMS.

What documentation should I receive?

Your handover includes your 100-point audit record in Solar Live, alongside relevant system details, warranties, manuals, commissioning information, monitoring access and required installation documentation.

How long does installation take?

Many residential systems can be installed quickly, but timing depends on roof access, system size, battery and switchboard scope, weather and approval requirements. Your schedule is confirmed before work begins.

What happens after installation?

The system is commissioned, monitoring is connected and handover information is provided. Solar Live can then become your ongoing system record for documents, support, review and referral.
